The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) is one of the major public universities in Spain. It is located in Bellaterra, very close to Barcelona city. UAB is an interdisciplinary university which offers 85 undergraduate courses, covering a wide range of fields such as humanities and arts, social sciences, health sciences, technology and physical sciences. The University has 40.000 students, almost 3.000 researchers, and it hosts more than 2.300 foreign students. The UAB is recognised internationally for its quality and innovation in research. Its main areas of investigation include Biotechnology and Biomedicine, Animal Health, Food Technology and Safety, Environmental Sciences and Technology, Nanotechnology, Microelectronics, Material Science and Engineering, Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence, Experimental Sciences, Social Sciences, and research in Humanities. This wide range of disciplines integrated into a single area help to promote multi-disciplinarity in research.

Role in HoNESt

HoNESt project is located in the Department of Sociology. As a research unit, the Department promotes research and knowledge transfer activities and initiatives by its academic staff and offers them support. The Department currently has nine research groups working in areas such as social policy, education, employment, religion, migrations, family, social class, gender and institutional design. With the aim if disseminating original research and theoretical work in sociology and other related social sciences, the Department published the journal "Papers, Revista de Sociologia". Papers is a leading publication in the field of sociology in the Spanish-speaking world and covers all fields of investigation.
